NAB launches new concept store

National Australia Bank has launched the first of a number of proposed “high-tech” concept stores at its Docklands headquarters in Melbourne.

The store is equipped with free WiFi, computers and iPads for customer use and will showcase the latest ATM technology, with NAB becoming the first bank in Australia to integrate intelligent cash, cheque, coin and bag deposit in a single deposit ATM. These machines will be supplied by NCR.

While the new deposit machines accept and read up to 50 notes at a time and count coins quicker than human tellers, the bank insists it will not be cutting any staff.

The most intriguing feature of the store, however, is a “NAB scent” which will be released in the building and will, according to the bank, help to relax customers.

NAB’s Peter Holmes told Seven News: “It’s certainly not making it smell like $50 notes. It’s about getting customers to feel comfortable in the store.”

NAB has plans to open four more concept stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
