AB+F Insurance Awards Winners 2011
The winners of the annual AB+F Insurance Awards were revealed at a ceremony at the Ivy in Sydney last night.
Ten awards in total were handed out to worthy recipients in the insurance industry, with Mark Milliner, chief executive of Suncorp Personal Insurance scooping the award for Australian Insurance Executive of the Year.
Accepting his award, Milliner referred to the challenges faced by the industry over the course of the last twelve months. He said: “In my 17 years at Suncorp, this last summer has been the worst summer that I have experienced from a claims perspective. That said, I think the insurance industry has responded exceptionally well to what has occurred.
“Whilst we have come under some criticism, I do think we are looking at ways to improve the industry as a whole and I do think we have responded sensationally.”
Referring to recent developments at Suncorp Personal Insurance, Milliner outlined a number of initiatives including the introduction of a new claims system, a new pricing system and its smash and repair shop, SMART, which now fixes 50,000 cars a year.
“And on top of that,” he said, “we have also managed a significant number of claims with all the events around Australia and New Zealand. It’s been a very busy, very challenging but most rewarding year.
“The Suncorp group really is one company with many brands and for personal insurance, we protect what matters for our customers, for our shareholders and for our staff,” he concluded.
